This exhibition of approximately 54 sculptures and 45 works on paper, with additional documentary source materials including notebooks and vintage photographs. Since the de Young Museum’s reopening in October 2005, over 1.6 million visitors have experinced 15 of her wire sculptures that grace the concourse level of the observation tower.
Ruth Asawa's work leaves one speachless: the pieces themselves and their shadows. The de Young has done an amazing job lighting the open wire sculptures in the observation tower concourse. It is exciting to see such a large body of Ruth Asawa's work in person for first time (or the zillonth time).
