Leon Fleisher performs Prokofi ev’s demanding
left-hand piano concerto, commissioned by
philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein’s brother Paul,
a concert pianist who lost his right arm in World
War I. Come under the spell of Mussorgsky’s
celebrated orchestral tone poem that portrays a
spooky, nocturnal witches’ Sabbath, and listen
to the strains of Tchaikovsky’s heartbreaking
fi nal symphony.
