The Atlanta Balalaika Society will present a concert of Russian and Eastern European folk music and song on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 4:00 pm at the Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mount Vernon Rd., Dunwoody, GA 30338. A $10 donation at the door is suggested.

The concert will feature soprano Irina Petryk, domra virtuoso Angelina Galashenkova-Reed, and balalaika soloist, David C. Cooper, who also conducts the Atlanta Balalaika Society Orchestra. The concert will showcase Russian, Gypsy, and Jewish folk music, and classical selections by Shostakovich and Mussorgsky.

The Atlanta Balalaika Society, now in its 29th year, is one of the largest orchestras of Russian folk instruments outside of Russia, and is the primary promoter of Russian folk culture in the Southeast. Colorfully dressed in traditional folk costumes, the orchestra performs on balalaikas, domras, and bayans (Russian button accordions), along with other ancient wind and percussion instruments.
