The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra returns to the Museum this year with their Rush Hour Concert series: 60-minute concerts designed to keep you out of traffic and on the edge of your seat, exploring interesting corners of the classical repertoire and featuring world-class soloists.
In March, critically acclaimed mandolin player Avi Avital of Israel plays Beethoven’s charming but completely neglected Andante con Variazioni as well as Argentinean composer Osvaldo Golijov’s simmering and tango-inspired Last Round for String Orchestra.
Avital has played with major orchestras, such as the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rostov State Theatre Soloists, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, the Ingolstadt Kammerorchester and the New York Metropolis Ensemble. In 2007, Avital won the first prize at Israel's prestigious competition for soloists, the “Aviv competition - Doris and Mori Arkin Award”, thus becoming the first mandolin player in the history of the competition to achieve this recognition.
