Using the latest fashion trends to drive and influence home décor, celebrity designers Ramsin Khachi, Glen Peloso and Sabrina Linn share their creative concepts by completely designing a room from top to bottom as part of the Runway to Room feature at the Toronto Fall Home Show. Rooms will be on display from Thursday, September 22 through Sunday, September 25 at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place. For more information call 1-877-715-7469 or visit www.fallhomeshow.com.
Fashion and home decor express a personal style and an individual’s personality, which designers Ramsin, Glen and Sabrina use as the foundation for their individual rooms. Each designer took their inspiration from a fall fashion trend created by stylist Ji-Yun Timperon using an outfit from H&M and drew upon the colours and patterns of the outfit to add accents and personality to the rooms. On a high rise platform outside the rooms, mannequins modeling the outfits that helped inspire their creations will be in the spotlight.
“The anticipation of Fall fashions is what keeps me going all year and the 2011 Fall Runways did not disappoint,” states Ji-Yun. “Showcasing a myriad of trends, designers pulled out all the stops and there really is something for everyone. With clothing supplied by H&M and shoes supplied by Nine West, I've pulled together runway looks of some of my favourite trends.”
Ramsin’s theme is Seeing Spots; he will make over a Lounge area by using patterns and colours. Glen will create a Dining Room by using retro styles of the past to create a Mod Men themed room. Sabrina will transform a Master Bedroom to replicate the 60s and 70s eras by using the Swinging Sixties & Seventies theme.
There will be three moderated panels where each designer will share the design concepts and fashion inspirations behind their Runway to Room designs on the Style At Home Main Stage. Designers will be available in their individual spaces following the panel and Q&A session.
The panel times are as follows:
Thursday, September 22 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Saturday, September 24 from 2:00pm – 3:00pm
Sunday, September 25 from 1:00pm – 2:00pm
Ramsin Khachi – Lounge – Seeing Spots
In his space Seeing Spots, Ramsin will be presenting a classic representation of the polka dot motif to create a classic but timeless lounge.
“Some trends never die,” says Ramsin. “They simply get recycled and revitalized in a new way.”
Ramsin will incorporate some of the key home trends for Fall including soft grey palettes infused with saturated colour in his space. Drawing inspiration from the 1950’s with hints of sparkle and subtle plush lavishness creating an overall look that has a classic understated elegance.
Glen Peloso – Dining Room – Mod Men
Glen is creating a themed Mod Men Dining Room which is inspired from fashion, combining Mad Men lines with a UK and nautical influence.
“We have had a love affair with the classic furniture for quite some time and the same is true of fashion,” says Glen. “The classic black cocktail dress by Chanel has never gone out of style but what goes around it makes it au courant. The same is true of our Mod Men room that takes the retro classic furniture shapes of the mid century and infuses it with current trend influences like pops of saturated colour like orange and blue.”
According to Glen, colour will be the most prominent and distinguishable Fall home trend this year. Warm orange and reds as well as purples, greens and azure blues from last year found in the new and the old – creating the classic current hipster!
“It is the marriage of the old and the new combined to create a great feel that appeal to both youth and the established as well,” adds Glen. “Think of Mad Men meets a modern day hipster and you will be inspired to combine and enhance in your own home as well!”
Sabrina Linn – Master Bedroom – Swinging 60’s and 70’s
Sabrina will be designing a fashion inspired Master Bedroom Suite influenced by the clean and elegant way of dress of the Swinging 60’s and 70’s. Much like the fashion of that era, the room will feature a sophisticated colour palette, incorporating dressmaker details and mix and match patterns that were prominent in that fashion era. The design hopes to inspire people to re-introduce richness and luxury back into a room that is often kept spare, transforming it into a Master retreat.
“The trend toward welcoming back saturated and sophisticated colours like fuchsia, navy blue and jade green is the dominant trend that will be incorporated into my room,” states Sabrina. “You’ll see just how beautiful rich colours look when paired with clean neutrals for relief. Just as you would accessorize with jewelry for your body, this look will be accessorized with touches of gilt in the way of muted gold details on lamps, mirrors and hardware. Bold but intricate geometric patterns keep the room graphic while dressmaker details like button tufting and contrast piping and trim add in the luxury and softness to create the perfect balance of layers, colour and interest in the space.”
PALETTE: fuchsia, navy blue, jade green, off white, accents: burnished gold
