Help Washington State’s Low-income Teens Feel More Confident and Attend Prom
Seattle, WA – March 5, 2011 — The Ruby Room, a Seattle non-profit that provides free formal gowns to teens in Washington state whose families are struggling financially, will hold a prom jewelry and handbag drive on Sat., March 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their Capitol Hill boutique.
The Ruby Room not only provides girls with free gowns, but shoes, wraps, handbags and jewelry as well.
“I remember what it was like shopping for prom,” says Nyla Bittermann, director of the Ruby Room. “It wasn’t just about the gown, it was about the accessories. And those aren’t cheap! We want every girl to walk out our door with everything she needs to sparkle at her prom.”
The Ruby Room holds boutique events during spring and early summer where girls are paired up with personal shoppers who help them find the perfect gown and accessories, all free of charge. The first boutique is scheduled for March 26.
“Last year we helped 450 girls feel more confident and look fabulous at the prom,” says Bittermann. “We’ve spent the last few months building up our inventory so the girls have plenty of gorgeous gowns to choose from no matter what size they are. But we’re sadly in need of jewelry and handbags to complete their outfits.”
If you or someone you know needs a gown, please contact the Ruby Room for more information.
