Rubberbandance Group returns to Jacob’s Pillow this summer for the first time since they wowed audiences at the Pillow in 2006. Six performances in the Doris Duke Theatre will feature Victor Quijada’s and Anne Plamondon’s latest work, Punto Ciego (Blind Spot). This evening-length piece for eight dancers explores the disconnection between reality as experienced on the Internet, television, and real life. Punto Ciego incorporates Victor Quijada’s eclectic approach to dance—ballet, hip-hop, contemporary movement, spoken word, and video are fused together seamlessly to create a work that “is a submersion in the connection between audience and performer” (Hour, Montréal). Collaborators include Montréal-based videographer René-Pierre Bélanger and composer Jasper Gahuina, also known as DJ Lil’ Jaz.
Before each performance, Montréal-based dance critic Philip Szporer will give a free Pre-Show Talk, and the Friday evening performance will be followed by a Post-Show conversation with Victor Quijada and Anne Plamondon. Quijada will teach a master class for Pillow students, staff, interns, and the public on Sunday, August 16.
