RUBBER is the story of Robert, an inanimate tire that has been abandoned in the desert but suddenly and inexplicably comes to life. As Robert roams the bleak landscape, he discovers that he possesses terrifying telepathic powers that give him the ability to destroy anything he wishes without having to move. At first content to prey on small desert creatures and various discarded objects, his attention soon turns to humans, especially a beautiful and mysterious woman who crosses his path. Leaving a swath of destruction across the desert landscape, Robert becomes a chaotic force to be reckoned with, and truly a movie villain for the ages. Written and directed by legendary electro musician Quentin Dupieux (Steak, Nonfilm), aka Mr. Oizo, RUBBER is a smart, funny and wholly original tribute to the cinematic concept of “no reason.” Photographed in English in the California desert, utilizing a Canon digital camera, the film was selected for the Critic’s Week at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. QUENTIN DUPIEUX – Director
At the age of 12, Quentin Dupieux finds a camera and starts filming everything he sees. It soon becomes necessary for him to create music to go with his images and it is on that occasion that he makes up his ridiculous alias: Mr Oizio. He becomes immediately famous worldwide. Looking for ways to spend his money, he then decides to direct films and produces the absurd, short film Nonfilm (2001). In 2006, he directs Steak, his first feature film, in which his friends Eric and Ramzy played major roles. He also produced a CD of the soundtrack, written by himself, Sebastian Tellier and SebastiAn.
