Canadian filmmaker, librettist, playwright, and musical theater writer known for the film From Sky and Soil, Canadian Royce Vavrek presents selections of his work at the New York City Opera’s VOX 2011. VOX is a contemporary opera lab that offers composers and librettists the opportunity to workshop their compositions, hearing them performed by City Opera’s full orchestra and roster of exceptional soloists. The Beach dramatizes the abuse of an eighty-year-old man by his much younger wife, who has locked him away in the confines of a laundry room for nearly eight months. VINKENSPORT depicts the story of a motley assortment of contestants participating in a competition to see who has the most melodious finch.
