The Scandinavian equivalent of Glastonbury and established in the same year, Roskilde is also about much more than just the music despite boasting more than 150 live acts.
A strong supporter of humanitarian causes, the festival promotes environmental awareness to its 75,000 festival goers and relies on an army of volunteers to police and manage the festival, leading to a uniquely relaxed vibe.
As well one of Europe's premier music bills, festival goers can look forward to a wide range of activities spanning wall climbing, skating, cinema, poetry slam and book readings, as well as the more traditional market stalls and workshops.
Despite being a weekend event, camping is available in the week building up to the festival.
