Mary Poppins is floating into The Kennedy Center this summer and in honor of the charmed caretaker, the KC Café is hosting a Magical Afternoon Tea Party after every matinee performance. Starting on Saturday, July 3rd, the KC Café will welcome youngsters for a late afternoon tea with cupcake decorating, mini-sandwiches, cookies, and a visit by a chim chim-in-ey chimney sweep. The tea party will take place from 4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. and is priced at $25 for children and $29 for adults.
During the tea, Pastry Chef Ben McCormick will visit with the kids to discuss cupcake making and decorating tips before they dive in and create their own edible masterpieces. The menu is stacked with kid friendly treats like mini- Nutella and banana, butter and strawberry jam, and ham and cheese sandwiches, as well as cookies, and fruit tarts all served with lemonade, ice tea and fruit punch.
Parents shall fear not, there will be something for everyone. As the kiddies decorate cupcakes, adults can relax and enjoy the unmatched view of the Washington, DC skyline while delighting in a tea of their own with mini- pimento cheese and smoked salmon with dill crème fraiche sandwiches, European macaroons, scones and a variety of hot teas like earl gray, green tea and lady gray. There will also be wine and cava available for purchase.
The Magical Afternoon Tea Party will be held after every matinee from July 1st through August 22nd. Space is limited and reservations are required. To make reservations please contact Jeff Wingate at 202-416-8559.
In addition, Executive Chef Joe Gurner at the Roof Terrace Restaurant at the Kennedy Center is taking cues from Ms. Poppins and will present family friendly menus. Please check the website at www.roofterracerestaurant.com for more information.
