Angelenos everywhere are getting excited for the city's second CicLaVia http://ciclavia.wordpress.com/ event on April 10th. Folks will be breaking free from their vehicles and hopping on their bicycles to enjoy 7.5 miles of car-free streets, so there couldn't be a more perfect moment to come together as a community to celebrate another vision for a cleaner, greener Los Angeles: a COAL-FREE city by 2020!
Join your friends at Greenpeace and the Sierra Club for a fun "Roll Against Coal" on Sunday April 10th, as part of CicLaVia. Not only will we have fun traveling together as a bike parade through the event, but we will be decorating our bicycles and bringing visuals along with us to raise awareness about our city's addiction to coal and the great opportunities for Los Angeles if we commit to a bold vision for a clean energy future!
We'll meet up at City Hall at 11am (meet us at the statue on the south lawn of City Hall). We'll spend about 30 minutes decorating our bikes (we will bring some signs and materials for you but please bring your own materials as well). Participants will also get Greenpeace and Sierra Club tshirts! At 11:30 we'll take a group photo in front of City Hall that we'll share with our members of City Council, and then we'll hit the streets as a coal-fighting posse!
There will be *PRIZES* for the most creative bike decorations! Some suggestions:
-Build a cardboard coal plant with smoke stacks that you tow behind your bike
-Dress for the green jobs that you want to see created in LA-wear a green hard hat!
-Make a sign to hang from your bike: "Coal Free LA by 2020" "Angelenos Against Coal"
-Dress as a caveman or a dinosaur, because burning coal is just way too old school!
We can't wait to see you out there!
