Graham Greenfield leads part two in this two part series of the Rodin exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. This major retrospective exhibition celebrates the sculptor who heralded the modern age. Ten themes reveal the sources of his creativity, including how Rodin’s art sprung from his study of the living, unposed model and the lessons of the Renaissance, and the Antique. The exhibition also demonstrates his daring and innovative use of bold enlargements and fragments, and includes his lyrical, erotic drawings There will be a special focus on the story of Rodin and Britain which begins in 1882 when he exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and culminates in his donation of eighteen works to the nation. Amongst some 200 pieces will be the Gates of Hell and displays tracing the development of a single sculpture.
