Sing 4 part harmony Shape Note Hymns, Anthems, and Odes in an easy going relaxed atmosphere. This is not performance music, we shall be singing for and to ourselves. We sit in a hollow square with the sides composing of- Tenor, Bass, Alto, and Treble. We take turns leading from the center of the square (it sounds GOOD there!). We sing from a tunebook called, "The Sacred Harp" (which is available for sale or loan.)
Shape Note Music is an ongoing tradition with its roots dating to at least the 18th Century. It is a very Democratic form of singing. There is no Choir Director.
You may have seen Shape Note Singing on the PBS special, "Bill Moyers Amazing Grace", or heard this style of singing in the movie, "Cold Mountain".
