Bonemarrow Drive Sponsored by Be The Match Foundation

The Rockin for a Match Benefit/Fundraiser will be held at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, MI on June 3rd from 2 p.m. – 2 a.m.

The Rockin for a Match Foundation was started in 2011 by Taylor Kanas. On October 15, 2010, she was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, called ALK Negative Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. Taylor went thru intensive treatment, but later relapsed. She was unable to use her own harvested cells for a bone marrow transplant. At that point, doctors began the search for a matching donor.

That’s when Taylor, friends, family and the community started to organize a bone marrow drive and fundraising benefit. Thus, “Rockin’ For a Match” was born. The first “Rockin’ For A Match” was held on March 26th, 2011, at the Emerald Theatre in Mt. Clemens. This fun event hosted a variety of bands. The Bone Marrow Drive signed up over 225 to the National Marrow Donor Program Registry (NMDP). The theme for this years drive is “MUSIC THRIVES WHILE SAVING LIVES.” Along with the musicians, the entire community is coming together to bring recognition to the National Registry. Thankfully, Taylor is now 8 months into remission.
