Desert Heat 2011 is a two-day rocket extravaganza that includes fun, raffles, prizes and events for the whole family hosted by SARA, a group of model rocketry hobbyists and enthusiasts dedicated to advancing the model rocketry sport in a safe and responsible manner.
This year's featured project will be a 20 foot tall ½-scale SCUD missile powered by five rocket motors providing over 800 pounds of thrust - the biggest ever launched in Tucson!
A recurring favorite event for kids is the mass launch of 50 tetrahedron rockets Saturday and Sunday at 11am that they can retreive for prizes.
Spectators are always welcome at no charge. Rocket rentals are available for $2 per launch and include a motor!
Food and rocket vendors will also be on-site to supply you and your rockets with everything you need. There is camping and RV parking, but no hookups are available.
This year the club has an FAA waiver allowing high power rockets flying to an altitude of 4500' Above Ground Level (AGL), with call in windows to 6500' AGL.
