Tucson, AZ--On April 13th 2009, a new and exciting tradition was born in downtown Tucson. The brainchild of Jannie Cox, Meet Me at Maynards was founded as a way to introduce the community (singles, marrieds, babies and dogs) to downtown Tucson. The event was also a way to enjoy healthy exercise, experience the beauty, history and architecture of our unique neighborhoods, and to appreciate and patronize local businesses.
Meet me at Maynards has since grown to become a weekly happening every Monday night of the year (holidays included/rain or shine). With an attendance of more than 10,000 in the first year, Jannie's dream more than succeeded - it established a wonderful new Tucson tradition.
To celebrate the first anniversary of Meet Me at Maynards, the public is invited to participate in “Rock and Stroll” on Monday, April 12th. Sponsored by TMC Healthcare, the event which will begin at 4pm and continue throughout the evening until 8pm, will feature an exciting blend of activity; walking, running, live entertainment, food, drinks, a free health check will be provided by TMC, book signing and more. And as an added bonus, the event will share the patio at Maynards with the 2nd Annual Maynards Market Vendor Fair featuring over 40 local merchants offering samples and tastings of products featured in the Market at Maynards. Live music at Maynards will be provided by Za Boom Ba (audience participation rhythm and drumming) and the Determined Luddites.
On the 12th, Meet Me at Maynards participants will gather on the patio as they do every Monday to “Stroll” (walk/run) the 2, 3 or 4 mile route through downtown and 4th Avenue and also to “Rock” to the music of many local musicians/bands stationed at points of interest along the route. Following the walk/run, they are invited to enjoy specially priced offerings and healthy snacks at Maynards and many other nearby restaurants including Cup Café, Zoom Juice, El Charro,O’2 Modern Fitness, Che’s Lounge, Brooklyn Pizza, Skybar, Delectables, Bumsteads, O’Malley’s, Shanty and The Hut.
In honor of the anniversary, the entertainers have agreed to play for tips only. Participants are encouraged to bring a pocket full of dollars to tip them along the way. Additionally, 500 participants will receive Free “MMM bucks”, good April 12 only, to be used (along with real cash) to tip official event entertainers/bands, and to make food and drink purchases at participating restaurants/bars/businesses.
