Robert Hardgrave and Casey O'Connell at BLK/MRKT July 15, 2006

BLK/MRKT Gallery is proud to present a two-person show featuring new paintings by Seattle’s Robert Hardgrave and San Francisco’s Casey O’Connell. In addition to non-collaborative new paintings they will be creating a site-specific installation that is not to be missed. This exhibition will run July 15, 2006 through August 19, 2006. An opening reception will take place on Saturday July 15 from 7:00pm to 11:00pm.

Both O’Connell and Hardgrave’s processes and their paintings are in a sense completely opposite, yet they share a fascination with symbolism and ritual; each of them deliberately encodes their private experiences into their painting. Following different paths and speaking in different tongues, they have each found a way to express and transcend private terrors through the creation of art whose dark, edgy beauty represents a reconciliation with the past and faith in the future.

BLK/MRKT Gallery, located in the heart of the Culver City Art District, was established in Los Angeles in 2001 with an emphasis on new contemporary art.
