Robert Glasper is a jazz pianist with a knack for mellow, harmonically complex compositions that also reveal a subtle hip-hop influence. Though young in age, he has worked with such luminaries as bassist Christian McBride, saxophonist Kenny Garrett, trumpeter Roy Hargrove, vocalist Carly Simon, and rapper Mos Def. Glasper calls himself ‘a straight-ahead player who just happens to bring other influences like hip hop, gospel and R&B into the mix.’ He steps forward with his second Blue Note release In My Element. This show is his debut as a leader at Yoshi’s.
