Of course you know Robbie Dupree by “Steal Away,” his most popular ton ten pop hit, released in 1980. And no doubt you’ve blasted it while lounging by the pool, hanging out long into a summer night or, even better, while sipping a tropical drink on your finest boat. This pioneer in the smooth-sailing world of yacht rock did not stop there, however, releasing nine solo albums over the past 25 years. His latest, Time and Tide, dropped last year and was recorded with E Street Band keyboardist David Sancious. It has been praised for its melodic old school R&B and pop grooves and critics around the world describe the self-produced album as Robbie's defining work.
“The pop-soul of vocalist Robbie Dupree's new Time and Tide melds relaxation and stimulation in melodic tunes he concocted with Sancious. To good advantage, they favor some of the same chords as Steely Dan. Dupree is responsible for the intelligent lyrics. His falsetto has something of Curtis Mayfield's about it.” - Frank-John Hadley, DownBeat Magazine
