This play addresses the issues of the absent father in so many of the homes of young people today. The vacuum of this required fathering role has had a devastating impact on our communities, and it is time that men begin to fill this role. The statistics are staggering: 75% of American fathers are absent from home, 71% of high school dropouts are from fatherless homes, and 85% of children who exhibit behavioral disorders are also from fatherless homes. An astonishing 90% of all homeless and runaway youth come from homes without fathers.

Our play, Where’s My Daddy? deals with two teenagers who are faced with issue that their father who has left home, and is no longer playing a role in their lives. In addition, it grapples with the emotions the mother feels of her husband leaving, with some dramatic consequences one of the teenagers goes through because of the father’s absenteeism. The play goes deep into the emotions of all of the family members, and how they struggle to get pass these emotions.

This riveting play does not only affect young people, but those who are now adults and still deal with the personal issue of not having a relationship with their father. Today, we must find a way to help people deal with this issue; help fathers’ get back into the lives of their children. There is a moving and spiritual part at the end of the play that truly invites all in the audience to embrace what they are feeling, allowing God to help them deal with this heartfelt issue.
