The Rising Powers Series

With funding from the Nevada Humanities Committee, UNR's Political Science Department and the Associated Students at UNR, the International Center is pleased to present a Rising Powers Series with speakers on China, India and Russia over the course of the next few months. Highly regarded experts in their respective fields brought to us by the World Affairs Council will discuss the notion of a possible seachange in the way the world works, and how US foreign policy might adapt to these changes.

In this series, we proudly present the first event:

RISING POWERS - CHINA

* Who: Doug Paal, Senior Fellow, Carnegie, Washington, DC

Dr. Douglas Paal is vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment. He served as the director of the American Institute in Taiwan from 2002-2006. He is the founder and former president of the Asia Pacific Policy Center, and advocates for the bipartisan promotion of trade and investment as well as defense and security ties across the Pacific. Dr. Paal holds a Ph.D. in History and East Asian Languages from Harvard University.
