Riot walks the plank for fashion! September 13, 2007

On The Edge: an epic fashion odyssey

Riot Boutique hosts their bi-annual seasonal event with a fashion show featuring the sword wielding Echo Pirate Princess, DJs, and a blast of a party. $5 entry becomes a $5 coupon for the store.

Brenda McGuire and the Riot squad know how to throw a party. Her seasonal Riot Boutique fashion shows are an atmospheric romp. This time Pirates of the Caribbean, the Odyssey and the Green Movement get twisted up with a little sci-fi when Echo the Pirate Queen wields her sword and travels through space in search of a better place to live than planet earth.

Echo's first stop is a land of greed where everyone wears jewel-toned and metallic clothes. Next is a planet strewn with garbage by the grunge styling citizens; then it is a world where vices rule, styled in disco fashion. Finally Echo returns to earth and swathes every inhabitant in sustainable fashion. To keep with the pirate/green theme, guests can play a round of Go Fish to win some stylish swag.

Partial proceeds from the night will be donated to MOBY – My Own Back Yard ( www.myownbackyard.ca) The East Van grassroots community organization believes in the positive benefits of community building through environmental landscaping projects. Their first project, the community garden has been a catalyst for the community, bringing neighbours together and deterring residential property crime.

$5 tickets are available at Riot (1395 Commercial Drive). This not only lets you have a ball at the party but it's also a credit that can be used towards a purchase of $50 or more at the store before the end of the November, 2007.
