Be there when Riffat Sultana, daughter of late legendary Pakistani classical singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, performs traditional and modern music from the Indian subcontinent, including Punjabi folk, ghazal, qawwali (devotional Sufi songs), and light classical music. Riffat Sultana is the first woman from her family’s distinguished musical lineage to have performed publicly in the West. Denied the opportunity to study music because of her gender, she took the initiative to teach herself ghazals (a form of mystical music using metered poetic forms) and has continued to further her musical education.
