In their new exhibition Riding the Rails, to debut November 9, Marin History Museum presents the fascinating story of the railroads in Marin County from the bustling days of the North Pacific Coast Railroad built in the 1870’s to the historic consolidation of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad (NWP) in 1907. The exhibition celebrates the railroad boom in Marin and surrounding counties beginning with passenger and freight lines throughout the end of service in the 1970’s. Marking 100 years since the birth of the NWP, the exhibit describes the early industries supported by the railroads such as lumber, dairy, and tourism. In addition, the museum’s activity room offers children’s games, books, and crafts related to trains.
