Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby bring their unique brand of mountain music to New York City when they hit the stage of The Concert Hall on April 24. The Grammy winning stars will be playing songs from their first ever collaborative album, ‘Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby,’ out March 20 on Legacy. Backed by Ricky’s ace band Kentucky Thunder, Skaggs and Hornsby will raise up a storm with their mix of high-harmonies, bluegrass strings and improvisational piano. The album itself is a mix of reworked hits, traditional arrangements and originals written in collaboration for the project. Highlights include Hornsby original “Crown of Jewels,” a story of a beauty queen’s fall from grace, traditional bluegrass arrangement “Across the Rocky Mountain,” and a reinvention of Hornsby hit “Mandolin Rain”; with a minor key arrangement that brings the bluegrass festival setting of the lyrics into sharp focus.
