Richmond Park -Saturday 29th October October 28, 2011

October is the best month to visit Richmond Park, as the deer are rutting and the weather can produce nice light and a mist at sunrise.
As that month is already filling up, I am setting a date of Saturday 29th October for an early morning shoot.

The sun starts to rise at about 7AM that time of year, so the plan is to meet at Richmond station at half past six.
I have checked ahead, and that part of the district line has no work planned for that weekend, although there is a closure further east.

Gear wise, you don't need a huge lens to shoot these deer, as you can get quite close. I have a frame filled shot, taken with an equivilent of a 30mm lens on a digital cropped sensor.

After the shoot, there is a hut that sells tea and bacon rolls etc for breakfast. Or for a cheaper option there are pleny of plenty of places
back by the station.

The deer are semi wild and move about the huge park, I have been many times and not seen a single one.
Also, as ever with sunrises it maybe crap.

The gates to the park are open to foot traffic 24 hours a day. For those intending to come by car, that gate normally opens around 7AM.
There is plenty of free parking inside the park at that time of the day. Those coming by foot will be entering the park at the top of
Richmond Hill, via the Richmond Gate.
