Richmond Men’s Chorus, the area’s premier male vocal ensemble, will conjure up the heyday of MTV during “Totally 80s!,” its final concert the season, on June 11 and 12, at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.
The 1980s was the decade known for “Just Say No,” Mary Lou Retton’s thrilling performance at the 1984 Olympics, the fall of the Berlin Wall, Pac Man and the explosion of video games, Rubik’s Cube, the first home computers, acid-washed jeans, big -- really, really big -- hair, and the cultural phenomenon known as MTV, which thrust music videos into American homes for the very first time.
Pop artists soon mastered this new format and changed the music industry in the process. Michael Jackson's 1982 album “Thriller”, thanks in no small measure to the music video it spawned, became the best-selling album of all time.
