Who Is Rene Marie?
Virginia native daughter Rene Marie has a story that reads like a Hollywood movie – the story of a young promising singer who left the music industry for love and marriage. Who, after raising a family, decided to leave it all and take leaps of faith to pursue her dreams. That first leap brought her to Richmond VA where she gained confidence, earned a large fan base, and strengthened her resolve to sing and write her own music. Between 2000 and 2004, she recorded four CDs on the MaxJazz label and won several awards, both domestic and international, for those recordings. Since that time she’s recorded and released her own CDs, traveled the world, and, received critical acclaim for a one-woman show which she wrote. In 2009 alone Rene performed in Mexico, Spain, Brazil and a 6-night stint at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Rene Marie is a Jazz singer who has blossomed into a formidable Jazz artist. Her music is all encompassing, embracing everything from Jazz standards, the Blues and the Beatles, to Country-Western and Ravel. Her lyrics, compositions and arrangements are provocative and sometimes even uncomfortable but they speak the truth about the human experience. She excites and engages her audiences who love her energetic performances. Rene Marie is the personification of the sentiment “minds wide open”.
