Saturday, September 29, 2012
1pm to 8 pm
Macdonald Avenue between 13th Street and Harbor Way, Richmond, CA
Two great FREE events in one great city - East Bay Center for the Performing Arts' Richmond Arts in Motion: An Indoor/Outdoor Street Fair Celebrating Interactive Art and Play and Richmond Main Street Initiative's Annual Spirit & Soul Festival & Fundraiser! Mark your calendar for this festive street party on The Main in Richmond - Macdonald Avenue - to unveil a new, permanent interactive public artwork from internationally-acclaimed, Bay Area-based, digital artist, Scott Snibbe.
The day begins at Spirit & Soul from 1-5pm with a celebration of Richmond Downtown's revival with phenomenal musical performances featuring local favorite Andre Thierry & Zydeco Magic and other top musical entertainment - set within an elegant outdoor bazaar atmosphere complete with fine dining, wine tastings, and unique artisan shopping.
Richmond Arts in Motion overlaps, beginning outside at 4pm with family-friendly activities (arts & crafts, bouncy house, face painting), Brazilian street performers (samba & capoeira), Mexican, Steel Pans, Hip Hop and African Music & Dance, processions, and food trucks. At 6pm, the official dedication of the artwork will take place followed by performance from Bay Area Soul Band, "The Congress". The action will then move inside the renovated historic Winters Building for more performances, including script-in-hand reading of scenes from a new Center-commissioned play, "Mattie Mae's", plus cutting edge performances.
Thanks to our funding partners - National Endowment for the Arts' "Our Town" Program and the City of Richmond.
