Richland College presents the 2013 Spring Ceramics Workshop, April 4-5, featuring artist Kip O’Krongly.
The free workshop will open with a lecture on April 4 by Ms. O’Krongly, a studio artist, instructor and the material technician at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis. After the lecture, a class will be held demonstrating construction techniques of plate, bowl and mug forms using latex and paper stencils. On April 5, a class will be held on surface treatment of forms and discussion of terra sigillata, a decorative technique. Participants will try stencil techniques on leatherhard tiles.
All events in the Spring Ceramics Workshop will be held in Fannin Hall, Room F179. Richland College is located at 12800 Abrams Road in Dallas. For more information, contact Jen Rose at jenniferr@dcccd.edu or 972-761-6837.
About the artist
Ms. O’Krongly earned a B.A. in studio art from Carleton College in Minnesota in 2001. She began her tenure as a studio artist at the Northern Clay Center (NCC) in 2008, and a year later, she became NCC’s studio technician, received an NCC Fogelberg Studio Fellowship, and began teaching classes at the Center. She is a recent Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist and a recipient of the 2010 Anonymous Potter Studio Fellowship at NCC. Ms. O’Krongly’s current work uses earthenware clay with slips and hand-cut stencils to explore her interest in the intersection of food production, energy use and transportation issues.
