Accomplished jazz guitarist Richard Julian, who has played frequently with Norah Jones, is returning to The Linda once again, this time with his own tunes. The careful and astute craftsmanship of Julian’s songwriting has earned him the praise of such acclaimed artists as Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones, and music legend Randy Newman, who called Julian “one of the best songwriters and record makers I’ve heard in a very long time.” Julian has come out with five albums, many of whose tracks possess a smart but subtle sociopolitical undertone—whether it’s “Syndicated” (which laments the inevitable spread of American franchise culture), the “infamous flood” mentioned in “A Thousand Days,” or the couple “watching the war on TV” in “World Keeps On.” While Julian has devoted a great deal of his time to writing and recording, he has also been performing in recent years with The Little Willies, a low-key country collaboration with pals Norah Jones, guitar whiz Jim Campilongo, bassist Lee Alexander and drummer Dan Reiser. Julian, along with friend Jesse Harris and singer Sasha Dobson, also performed at the prestigious American Songbook series at Lincoln Center’s Allen Room, which garnered him a rave review in The New York Times. After four records and logging thousands of road miles, this disarmingly charming and dazzlingly talented musician can stop loitering in the corner of the public's eye and takes his rightful spot front and center.
