RiceRokit - Hawaiian / Reggae / Ska *Skawaiian Style!* June 7, 2009

RiceRokit is a band created by Kendo of LA / Long Beach hybrid, Dubcat (members: Sublime / Long Beach Dub Allstars / Hepcat).
TeamRokit,

International recruits its crew, cadets and interns from
all over the globe, to help in its mission to heighten awareness of
art, culture, nature, and philosophy throughout the world, by way of
its positive message and Hawaiian surfing lifestyle.

Inspired by the ground-breaking reggae / hip-hop sounds created by his
Long Beach bandmates, as well as the traditional ska mastery of his
longtime Hepcat friends, and additionally impressed with the live
success of Dubcat in Southern California, Kendo readily transplanted
his solo project RiceRokit to the thriving, enthusiastic live-music
scene in the booming "college-town" of San Diego, where it is based
today.

Through booking the Los Angeles leg of the bi-coastal "3 Floors of
Ska" event at Knitting Factory Hollywood in 2007 (all via MySpace),
RiceRokit was signed to Megalith Records, a label founded by Robert
"Bucket" Hingley of 80's East Coast ska pioneers, The Toasters. Dreams
DO come true!!!

Just a couple of years prior, while performing and touring with
Dubcat, Kendo realized the intention of the band was to allow their
musical direction to evolve beyond the sound that had already been
created and made globally popular by Sublime--certainly
understandable.

However, by observing the continued enthusiastic response of audiences
to the "Long Beach sound," he decided to carry-on the tradition with
his solo project, expanding on the theme with elements of 80's 2-tone
ska and new-wave stylee.

Additionally, observing the increased trend of lyrical (and general
societal) negativity, Kendo also endeavored to take a more positive
approach to the music, to counterpoint the existing genre's darker
imagery and subtext.
