DHOLRHYTHMS DANCE COMPANY OF NON STOP BHANGRA PRESENTS: "RHYTHMS OF PUNJAB"---MONTHLY DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
Have you ever wanted to jump up and join a wedding dance scene in a Bollywood movie?
If you have ever wanted to join the colorful, vibrant, and energetic dance numbers at wedding scenes in Bollywood flicks, or the bouncing joyful circles at Punjabi receptions, or perform at family, friendly gatherings, or just learn an Indian dance routine for fun, then come join Dholrhythms Dance Company's monthly choreography workshops, "Rhythms of Punjab".
Workshop teaches a fun choreographed dance routine to a medley of 2 to 3 Punjabi songs over the course of one month. Choreography will vary ranging from strictly Bhangra routine to mixing it up with Giddha (women's folk dance) to add more of a feminine vibe. If you enjoy watching Dholrhythms Dance Company performances at Non Stop Bhangra monthly, you will love these workshops as they are inspired by the same choreography style.
For inspiration and to get an idea of the style of dancing, here's a video of the students from previous workshops performing at a local art show. http://youtu.be/3CXuSpY2u6M
Workshop will be taught by Vicki Virk, creative director of Dholrhythms Dance Company and Non Stop Bhangra monthly at the Rickshaw Stop.

What is Bhangra?-- one of the happiest and most exuberant forms of movements that originated in the Punjab region of North India. Traditionally performed at harvest season in the villages of Punjab, Bhangra is now known as a folk dance that is done all over India during family celebrations and festive occasions. If you have ever gone to an Indian wedding and witnessed people bouncing joyfully in circles, shrugging their shoulders, and laughing endlessly, you have experienced Bhangra. In Bollywood movies, its often shared during scenes reflecting such colorful family celebrations.
What is Giddha?--Giddha is the folk dance of women in Punjab, known as the counterpart of Bhangra. It is just as energetic as Bhangra but at the same time it manages to creatively display feminine grace, beauty, and elegance. It focuses on more feminine movements using your hips, beautiful hand gestures and facial expressions.
