The NY guitarist has a new recording with a new group. RAAQ was formed to serve as an outlet to showcase Abbasi's playing on acoustic guitar. The chamber- like group captures a fresh sound that is unique in jazz. With the acoustic guitar and vibraphone cascading into each other over the hard interactive grooves of bass and drums, RAAQ creates a driving and open textural experience for the listener. The group is comprised of vibraphonist, Bill Ware (Steely Dan), bassist, Stephan Crump (Vijay Iyer Trio) and drummer, Eric McPherson (Andrew Hill). RAAQ performs Abbasi's complex yet earthy compositions as well as rarely heard gems from other composers. Partial proceeds will be donated to the flood victims in Pakistan.
