TODAY'S MESSAGE: WMSBURG AND GREENPOINT, NOT DEVELOPERS AND POLICE...

Friday night left us reciting the 1st Amendment again and again, straight into the faces of NYPD people, as if trying to revive a passed-out friend by reciting his name: "and the right of the people peaceably to assemble! and the right of the people peaceably to assemble! and the right of the people..." The arrest of 37 Critical Mass bicyclists made quite the spectacle ? cops in SUVs pursuing cyclists in a high-speed chase scene. It resembled a 70's TV police show...but who were the sponsors?

And who are the sponsors of the 40 story-high condos that are supposed to line the East River in Williamsburg? DRIVE THE DEVIL FROM DEVELOPERS! Which brings us to Wednesday night at St. Mark's in New York.

At our March 30th service we will explore how much the developers' grip on the zoning-building permit process resembles the militarized law enforcement of New York City. Let's take a good look at this corruption, so brazen now, even comic. Bicyclists must find a way to ride, and people must not live in the gated community of Mike Bloomberg's suburban mind. Amen? AMEN.

Join me and the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir on Wednesday at 8pm in St. Mark's Church in the Bowery. Saints in attendance include First Amendment defender, Critical Mass lawyer and the people's candidate for Public Advocate, Mr. Norman Siegel, and neighborhood-defense activists from Brooklyn.

...and Boston friends! and friends with Boston friends! The whole choir is bussing up for shows at the Old South Meeting House on Saturday and Sunday (April 2nd and 3rd). Change-a-lujah!
