Peter Newman will be visiting here from Murdoch University in Western Australia and has agreed to talk to us on transportation, cities, energy and sustainability.

He and Jeff Kenworthy authored the 1989 book Cities and Auto Dependence that first showed the strong dependence of vehicle miles traveled on urban design. That book has inspired a whole area of research, including mine.
