Request for Proposals in Artistic Vision and Direction

The Fraser Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society will celebrate its 25th year of production in 2007. Over the years, the Society has staged nearly 50 shows, including 11 of the Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, 19 different Christmas Pantos and half a dozen other musical productions. Additional fund-raising events have included musical evenings in local churches and other venues, and the popular improvisational comedy, Aunt Martha’s Funeral. As noted in the above critical quote, FVGSS productions have been at a very high level.

For its 25th Anniversary, the Society wants to put on a show which highlights its work over the past quarter century. The society wants to present a show which is unified by one or more over-riding themes and/or storylines. This is preferred over a variety-style presentation of “greatest hits”. In developing such a unique production, the Society recognizes that visionary and delivery proposals from potential directors could substantially affect the actual content and format of the production. Therefore, artistic proposals are being sought at an early stage in the show’s development.

To that end, the Society is now asking that interested parties formally submit proposals in Artistic Vision and Direction for its 25th Anniversary Production to be held at the above indicated venue and dates. Each proposal should include the following:

- Provide an overall vision for a Production which will celebrate the Society’s first 25 years
- Provide a general outline of one or more themes and/or storylines to achieve this vision
- Propose the general mixture of musical and artistic elements to be incorporated in the production, including selections from each of the 14 operatic works by Gilbert & Sullivan
- Address suggestions for specific production elements from Society members and associates, and
- Provide for the preparation of a detailed draft outline of the production by the October 16th , 2006
