RENDEZVOUS IN POWAY
Poway, CA – The City of Poway and the Old Poway Park Action Committee will be hosting the annual Rendezvous in Poway, a living history event. This event will be held Saturday, September 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Old Poway Park. Admission is free and all ages are invited to join the fun.
Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to live in the Old West over 150 years ago? Step back in time at the Rendezvous in Poway and enjoy the rich smells of campfires, the boom of a Civil War era cannon, rifle firing and tomahawk throwing demonstrations, mock gunfights and train robberies! Visit a frontier trading camp and ask mountain men and women, trappers, cowboys, miners and soldiers how they lived and survived when the West was young and untamed.
On Saturday and Sunday children can join the California Gold Rush and try their luck at gold panning beside Rattlesnake Creek. Gold panning equipment will be provided and youngsters will have the opportunity to find the mother lode and take home a free souvenir.
Visitors can also browse authentic crafts or ride aboard Poway Midland Railroad’s 1907 Baldwin Steam Engine for a nominal fee. The museum and Nelson House will be open with docents available to answer questions and wandering musicians will entertain you throughout the day.
The City of Poway and the Old Poway Park Action Committee invite you to experience history first-hand during this one-of-a-kind event. For additional information, please call (858) 668-4576 or visit our website at www.poway.org/oldpowaypark.
