Religious Traditions of Japan
Sat., April 21, 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
It is difficult to imagine what Japan would have been like without the religious traditions of Shinto and Buddhism, which have been a part of its cultural fabric since earliest times. This morning two experts examine the history, concepts, and influences of each. James Dobbins, professor of religion and East Asian studies at Oberlin College discusses Buddhism, while Kevin Doak, who is the holder of the Nippon Foundation Chair in Japanese Culture at Georgetown University, discusses Shinto.
