The Crossroads Cultural Center-Houston and the University of St. Thomas will host a lecture on “Reality, Reason and Freedom: At the Root of the Religious Quest,” at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 10 in Jones Hall, 3910 Yoakum.

Guest speakers are Dr. Dominic Aquila, UST Vice President for Academic Affairs; Sister Damien Marie Savino, FSE, chair of the UST Environmental Science and Studies Department; and Dr. John C. McCarthy, associate professor of philosophy at the Catholic University of America.

To say that the religious sense concerns reality, reason and freedom, may seem like a contradiction because many in our culture believe that faith and reason are incompatible. There is a common perception that if one uses reason, faith is not needed, and if one embraces faith, reason should be ignored.

Dr. Aquila will discuss why it is essential to confront the question of faith and reason in an academic context; Sr. Damien Marie will lead us in an exploration of the boundaries of faith and sciences; and Dr. McCarthy will present the Religious Sense of Fr. Luigi Guissani.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact 713-823 2263 or houston@crossroadsculturalcenter.org
