The holiday season is often a period of high activity and accompanying stress and anxiety, which was just as true a century ago as it is today. A special tour of the James J. Hill House will focus on the many ways the Hill family and their servants, ca. 1891-1921, found ways to celebrate the hectic Christmas and New Year's season with elaborate entertaining and simple pleasures. Costumed actors will play members of the Hill family, including James J. and Mary T. Hill, so guests can imagine living and celebrating the holidays in this Gilded Age mansion.
After the tour and refreshments (shortbread made at the Hill House using Mrs. Hill's own recipe, hot apple cider and ice water), guests will gather in the elegant drawing room, where life coach Beth Freschi will provide a guided relaxation class with music and relaxation techniques that calm the mind and body. The class will begin with deep breathing, followed by a muscle relaxation exercise, guided imagery, and meditation. Beth's class will help you feel renewed and refreshed—what a wonderful way to begin the busy holiday season!
Previous tour/relaxation classes at the Hill House have sold out, so reservations are strongly recommended for this unique event—please call the Hill House at 651-297-2555 to attend Relax into the Holidays. For ages 18 and up.
Cost is $15, or $13 for members of the Minnesota Historical Society and includes the holiday tour of the Hill House, relaxation class, refreshments and a gift relating to relaxation and wellness. All admission proceeds go to the Minnesota Historical Society.
