The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will hold its second annual Regional Summer Choir Camp the week of August 9-13. The camp is open to all youth ages 7 to 18 who have the ability to match pitch.
The camp will be held at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and will be residential for singers ages 10 to 18; campers ages 7 to 10 will attend during the day only. Campers will receive instruction in music theory and sight-singing, and will be given private and group voice lessons. In addition to evening performances, campers will sing the National Anthem at an Erie SeaWolves baseball game and perform at YPC Erie’s Summer Gala event. Swimming, kickball, and crafts also are part of the daily schedule.
The Young People’s Chorus of Erie is the only comprehensive youth chorus organization in northwestern Pennsylvania. It is a regional outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn Behrend and the first affiliate of the internationally acclaimed, multicultural Young People’s Chorus of New York City.
The cost for residential campers is $250 and includes lodging in one of Penn State Behrend’s residence halls, all meals, and supplies. The cost for day campers is $125 and includes lunches, snacks, and supplies. YPC is able to offer need-based scholarships for up to 50 percent of the camp cost; documentation of financial need is required.
