The City of Lake Charles will host 'Reflections on Water in American Painting' from the collection of Arthur J. Phelan at the 1911 City Hall Arts and Cultural Center. Well known for his paintings depicting life in the American West, Arthur Phelan began collecting nautical paintings in the 1960's. Between 1965 and 2000, he acquired more than 400 oil paintings and watercolors by American artists. The 50 paintings in the exhibit trace more than a century of America's maritime and seaside history. The works also illustrate varying artistic currents that shaped American art.
