SATURDAY JULY 25, 2009 COME JOIN US AT TMAA AS WE BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD DAYS OF THE "BOWIE KNIFE SCHOOL"! After the famous "Sandbar Fight" on September 19, 1827, between Jim Bowie and Norris Wright when Bowie used the now legendary knife to kill Wright, "Bowie Knife" schools popped up everywhere in the Southwest. We will examine the real knife technology behind the actual Bowie Knife blade then, it's true uses, what was taught and what should have and not have been taught at those Bowie Knife schools which taught "the art of cut, thrust, and parry", by looking at what we know as to true knife combatives used today around the world....it'll be FUN! Visit http://texomamaa.com/workshops.aspx for more information. For those that wish to sign up and pay the above workshop price upfront by MAY 30th, can also order a custom made Aluminum Bowie Knife practice blade for only $45 each. Each Aluminum practice blade will be made as described by Rezin Bowie(Jim Bowie's brother) that was made by the blacksmith,Jesse Cleft, out of an old file and later described by Rezin Bowie, at 9.5 inches (24 cm) long, 0.25 inches (0.64 cm) thick and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide. It was straight-backed having no clip point nor any hand guard with simple riveted wood scale handle! Each practice knife ordered will have the purchasers name stamped on it if so desired at no extra cost! Don't forget orders must be prepaid by MAY 30th, so production can be filled!
