This year's topic has been: GLOBAL MIGRATION AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING

This presentation is entitled: "Women, Labour and Global Migration" with speaker Dr. Annalee Lepp, University of Victoria

Globalization is one of the major factors driving transnational labour migration and trafficking in women. This talk will consider the impact of cross-border movement on people's lives in Canada and elsewhere.

The short film, 'Uprooted: Refugees of the Global Economy' (by the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, 2001) will be screened that tells the stories of people uprooted by globalization in three diverse countries.

Annalee Lepp, Ph.D., is Chair and Associate Professor in the Women's Studies Department at the University of Victoria. She is also the Canadian representative in the Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) and has been one of the project coordinators at GAATW Canada since 1996. She was the co-author and editor of the study, Transnational Migration, Trafficking in Women, and Human Rights: The Canadian Dimension, and is currently on the editorial collective of a forthcoming anthology entitled Women's Transnational Labour Migration.
