Ever wonder much caffeine-jacked energy drink you could suck down before totally losing your sense of rhythm?
Go find out this Thursday when the Red Bull Versiones party lands at Grand Central with endless party tunes provided by local Latin acts Karina Iglesias, Flow Official, Elastic Bond, Xperimento, Bachaco, and Arboles Libres.
But besides the music, there's bound to be free drank, right? So slam a few cans and then take that action to the dance floor. We're betting 1000 grams is all it takes for your limbs to begin twitching uncontrollably.
Now while you conduct this ill-advised, caffeine-addled experiment, the Versiones people will be carrying out their own slightly more elaborate test. And here's how it works ...
Step One: Each of the aforementioned music acts will be given "a classic vintage Latin song, i.e. 'Oye Como Va'," picked by the Brass King, one of the night's guest DJs.
Step Two: The musicians will be asked to perform a versione of that chosen classic in a style entirely different from their usual approach. For example, psychedelic folk crew Arboles Libres could be forced to lay down a brutal thrash cover of Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad."
Step Three: A panel of three judges -- Latin Music Recording Academy's Melanie Masterson, Circle House Studios' Abebe Lewis, and Latin Grammy winner Jorge Moreno -- will choose the winner based on arcane unknown criteria.
