Estancia Valley is home to one of New Mexico's newest recycling centers. The center began baling its first bale of cardboard in early October. Materials to be initially processed at the new facility include cardboard, mixed paper (newspaper, office paper, junk mail), plastic #1 bottles, plastic #2 bottles, aluminum cans and tin cans. These items were selected as they represent common household/business recyclables and more importantly have strong end markets and value for sale. The next months will involve promoting the operations and the new recycling opportunities for residents in a variety of ways.
The Estancia Valley Solid Waste Authority already accepts yard debris, tires, used oil, auto batteries, appliances, electronics, mortalities, septage and scrap metal and have been quite successful with these initiatives.
