Jeff Blodgett, a 1983 Carleton College graduate and the director of Wellstone Action!, will give a reading from his book, ?Politics the Wellstone Way: How to Elect Progressive Candidates and Win on Issues,? on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at Carleton College?s Olin Hall, Room 149. A book signing will follow. The event is free and open to the public.
Blodgett was the campaign manager of the late Senator Paul Wellstone, who was killed in a plane crash just days before the 2002 election. Wellstone taught political science at Carleton for over 20 years before entering into politics, and during this time he inspired many students to pursue careers in politics, including Blodgett himself. Blodgett now works to pass on this inspiration to others.
Wellstone Action! is a group that advocates a progressive stance on social issues, to celebrate and continue the legacy of Wellstone and his wife, Sheila, who was also killed in the plane crash. The group works to create links between other progressive activists and groups and continues the fight against domestic violence, in which Sheila was deeply involved.
The group also puts on ?Camp Wellstone,? a two-day program that teaches strategies to those interested in activism. They hosted the first Campus Camp Wellstone at Carleton in 2004.
The Carleton bookstore is sponsoring the event(s). For more information and disability accommodations, call Carleton?s library at (507) 646-4260.
