Heather Dubrow, the Tighe-Evans Professor and John Bascom Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and who was a Carleton faculty member from 1980 to 1990, will present a poetry reading at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, at Carleton College?s Gould Library Athenaeum. The event is free and open to the public.

Dubrow, a scholar of Renaissance and early modern literature and lyric poetry, will read selections of poems from her chapbook, ?Border Crossings.? She also will present selections from her more recent work, including poetry in forms such as the ghazal, a Middle Eastern poetry form, and hendecasyllables, a verse containing 11 syllables.

Dubrow is the author of numerous books, including ?Captive Victors: Shakespeare?s Narrative Poems and Sonnets,? ?A Happier Eden: The Politics of Marriage in the Stuart Epithalamium? and ?Shakespeare and Domestic Loss: Forms of Deprivation, Mourning, and Recuperation,? among others. She was co-editor of an anthology titled ?The Historical Renaissance: New Essays on Tudor and Stuart Literature and Culture.? She also has published more than 50 articles on early modern literature and pedagogy.

As a poet, Dubrow has written chapbooks of poetry including ?Border Crossings? and ?Transformation and Repetition.? Her poetry has been published in ?Journal of the American Medical Association,? ?Prairie Schooner? and ?Southwest Review.? Her play, ?The Devil?s Paintbrush,? has been produced by a community theater.

Dubrow received her B.A. summa cum laude from Radcliffe College at Harvard University and her Ph.D. from Harvard University.
